Directions

  1. 1. Take out butter early so it can come to room temperature.
  2. 2. Mix water and whole milk and heat to ~100F.
  3. 3. Stir in yeast and set aside.
  4. 4. In a mixing bowl, measure out flour.
  5. 5. Add to the bowl the sugar and salt.
  6. 6. Attach a dough hook to a stand mixer and start it up with the flour mixture.
  7. 7. Pour in the water/milk/yeast mixture.
  8. 8. Once the dough comes together, add butter 1 tbsp at a time (do *NOT* add another until the dough incorporates the butter and comes back together).
  9. 9. After all the butter is added, wait 30s more.
  10. 10. Turn out to the counter and shape into a ball.
  11. 11. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel.
  12. 12. Wait 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  13. 13. Place some parchment paper in a bread loaf pan and grease it with some oil.
  14. 14. Turn dough out on a floured work surface.
  15. 15. Roll the dough out to about 1 inch thickness.
  16. 16. Roll the dough by hand into a log the width of the pan and place it in the pan.
  17. 17. Cover with a damp towel and wait 45-60 minutes or until it puffs over the top of the pan.
  18. 18. Place into an oven set to 350F and let bake for 35-40 minutes.
  19. 19. Once the top is browned, pull it out and let cool completely on a wire rack.
